Bertram (Bert) Bennett

November 4th, 1951 – January 1st, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our brother He was a shining light in our lives, cherished for his kindness, humor, and unwavering support the peaceful passing of Bert Bennett on Wednesday January 1,2025 at the age of 73 years.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories are his brother’s Lloyd (Selina) Hawkes Bay, Wade (Geri) Burin, brothers-in-law Tom (Hilda) Coady of Burin, Nick Kennedy, sister-in-law Geraldine Coady Jean de Baie. Bert was loved and cherished by wonderful nephew Gordon (Loriann) Kennedy, niece Nicole (Mike) Walsh, nieces Diane (Eddie) Hannam and Donna (John) Hannam. Bert also leaves behind a cousins who he had a special relationship with Gerald (Lisa) Clarke, Jacqui Brockerville, Eugene (Bertha) Taylor, plus a large circle of other family members and friends.

Predeceased by parents Reginald and Dorothy (Clarke) Bennett, wife Mary Bridget (Coady) Bennett, sister Melita Irene (Bennett) Kennedy.

Donations in Bert’s memory can be made to the Donald C. Jamieson Academy Breakfast Foundation, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Port au Bras and Faith and Hope Salvation Army Church fund Creston South.

Bert: The man with the biggest heart.

Bert was known for his compassion, kindness, big heart and unwavering faith. He was loved dearly by his family and friends, as well as by his school bus children. Bert was born and raised in Port au Bras. He was born into a family of entrepreneurs, and coincidentally found himself following the entrepreneurial path. At a young age, Bert began his own business. Bert’s strong work ethic, coupled by the love and support of his wife Mary, was instrumental in helping him achieve his business goals. And there were many business goals. Over the years, Bert had his hand in many businesses; these included the transportation industry, rental properties, a convenience store, a gas station, restaurants, bar establishments, etc. In addition, to his business goals, Bert took great pride in driving the school bus. A job he loved dearly. Bert was a 40 year member of the Masconic Lodge of Burin and he was one of the founding members of Shriners. Bert leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, kindness and love. He will be missed by all who knew him and will continue to live on in the lives and hearts he touched!

Family will be receiving friends on Saturday January 4, 2025 fr 2-4PM & 7-9PM, Sunday January 5, 2025 & Monday January 6, 2025 10AM-12PM, 2-4PM & 7-9PM.

Funeral service will take place on Tuesday January 7, 2025 at 2PM from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Port au Bras.

In keeping with Bert’s wishes cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date to be announced.
